BY ANDREA AHLES – American Airlines confirmed Tuesday that it has chosen B/E Aerospace to make the business class seats for its Boeing 787-900 Dreamliners that will be delivered later this year.
The Fort Worth-based carrier had dropped Zodiac as the provider of its business class seats on the Boeing 787-800 after the seatmaker had continued production problems causing American to delay its initial Dreamliner deliveries from late 2014 to early 2015. Although Zodiac is owned by a French company, its U.S. headquarters are in Gainesville, Tex.
American used the Zodiac seat on some of the retrofits of its Boeing 777-200 but will now use the new B/E Aerospace Super Diamond Business Class Seat.
B/E Aerospace will also be providing all three classes of seats for American’s Airbus A350 when it is delivered at the end of 2017, American spokesman Casey Norton said.
American had previously announced that B/E Aerospace would provide the seats for its new premium economy class that will debut with the Boeing 787-900 later this year. Premium economy will also be added to its Boeing 777-300ERs, 777-200ERs, 787-800s and Airbus A330s over the next three years.
